What a new aluminium window costs in Melbourne
Every window is measured on site and priced in writing before work starts. A new double-glazed window, supplied and installed, usually falls in the range below; its size, style and glass move it within the range. Single-glazed windows cost less and are priced on the quote. If your frames are still sound, new glass in the old frame may cost less again.
Typical Melbourne range
- New double-glazed window, installed
- $2,300–$3,500

Window styles
See how each window opens
How a window opens decides how much air it lets in, whether it can stay open in the rain, and what it needs around it. Pick a style: the front view and the plan or section show it working.
Sliding
- Opens
- One sash slides past the other on its own track.
- Suits
- Wide openings, and beside a path, deck or veranda where a sash can’t swing out.
- Good to know
- Nothing swings out, so it never catches anyone walking past. Half the opening can be open at a time.
Awning
- Opens
- Hinged at the top; the bottom swings out.
- Suits
- Bathrooms, kitchens and laundries.
- Good to know
- The open sash shelters the gap below it, so it can stay open in light rain.
Casement
- Opens
- Hinged at the side; it opens like a door.
- Suits
- Bedrooms and living rooms that need the most fresh air.
- Good to know
- The whole sash opens, so it catches a breeze. It needs clear space outside to swing.
Double-hung and sash
- Opens
- Two sashes slide up and down in the frame.
- Suits
- Period homes, and rooms where air in at the top and the bottom helps.
- Good to know
- Open both a little and warm air leaves at the top while cooler air comes in below.
Fixed
- Opens
- It doesn’t open.
- Suits
- The most glass and light where no air is needed, often beside opening windows.
- Good to know
- With no sash to frame, more of the opening is glass.
Louvre
- Opens
- Glass blades tilt open together.
- Suits
- Air in a small space, such as a bathroom, laundry or stairwell.
- Good to know
- Partly open blades still let air through while shedding most of the rain.
Bifold
- Opens
- Hinged panels fold back to one side.
- Suits
- A kitchen servery to an alfresco or deck.
- Good to know
- Folded back, the panels clear almost the whole opening, so the bench becomes a servery.

How we work
Measured on site. Quoted in writing. Priced before we start.
- Tell us about the windows. How many, roughly how big, which rooms, and what bothers you now: cold, noise, sticking or rattling. A form or a WhatsApp message with a few photos.
- We measure on site. We measure every opening, check the frames and the walls around them, and talk through how each window should open.
- You get it in writing. The quote lists each window: its style, frame colour and glass, with the price fixed before work starts.
- Made to measure, then fitted. The windows are made to your measurements, then installed and sealed, and the site is left clean.

Questions
Aluminium windows: common questions
How much does a new aluminium window cost in Melbourne?
A new double-glazed aluminium window, supplied and installed, typically costs $2,300 to $3,500, depending on its size, style and glass. Single-glazed windows cost less. Every window is measured on site and priced in writing before work starts.
Which window style suits which room?
Awning windows open out from the bottom and can stay open in light rain, so they suit bathrooms, kitchens and laundries. Casement windows open fully on a side hinge for the most fresh air. Sliding windows suit wide openings and spots where a sash can’t swing out. Double-hung and sash windows suit period homes, and fixed windows give the most light where no air is needed.
Single or double glazing?
Double glazing keeps rooms warmer in winter and quieter all year, and cuts condensation on the inside pane. Single glazing costs less and suits garages, sheds and laundries. You can mix them: double glazing in the living rooms and bedrooms, single where it matters less.
Should I replace the whole window or just the glass?
If the frames are sound, square and deep enough, retrofit double glazing swaps the single glass for a sealed double-glazed unit, from about $600 to $1,800 per opening. If the frames are corroded, warped or draughty, or you want a different style, a new window is the better buy. We check the frames on site and tell you which makes sense.
Do you make new timber windows?
New windows are aluminium. Timber and sash windows we repair instead: the rot cut out, new hardwood spliced in, the glass reglazed and the timber painted.
Can new windows match the rest of the house?
Yes. The frames are powder-coated in a colour chosen to suit the house, and the style can follow the windows you have, such as double-hung sashes on a period home.
